But those are about the only two games I play a lot of, so I returned the enclosure and stuck the RX 580 back into my Windows PC (which basically only sits around to play those games). Maybe these are Blizzard-specific issues. Click somewhere on the mini-map, and it takes a brief moment for the game to catch up. It kills performance and more importantly it kills the fun of the game. Anytime something new comes on screen, I get a little hitch. Diablo III will run along fine at 4K on my external LG monitor and then every 10-15 seconds I get a half-second freeze. In the games I tried (mostly Diablo III and StarCraft II so far) the performance is very stutters.
The average FPS is greatly improved generally, but there are problems that FPS alone won't reveal. I'm really disappointed in the janky performance. I have tried an eGPU with my 2017 MacBook Pro 15' (base model with Radeon 555 2GB) and an 8GB RX 580 in a Sonnet enclosure.
